Our Values
The Discover NZ Stories/Tūhura Trustees seek to guide the growth of the Tūhura Aotearoa Discover NZ Stories App by values that resonate across Māori, Pasifika, and Pākehā communities. These five values shape our business:
Whanaungatanga (Relationships & Community) – Building strong connections and fostering a sense of belonging among users, ensuring the app reflects the diverse voices of New Zealanders.
Manaakitanga (Respect & Hospitality) – Creating a welcoming and inclusive space where stories are shared with care, honouring the dignity of all contributors.
Kaitiakitanga (Guardianship & Sustainability) – Ensuring the app preserves and protects cultural narratives, respecting the responsibility to safeguard knowledge for future generations.
Vā (Relational Space & Connection) – Recognising the importance of relationships and shared experiences, ensuring the app facilitates meaningful interactions between storytellers and audiences.
Aroha (Compassion & Empathy) – Encouraging storytelling that fosters understanding, kindness, and emotional connection, making the app a space for authentic expression.
The App seeks to be culturally responsive, inclusive, and deeply connected to the identity of Aotearoa.
Our Goal
For our app to be a clear expression of Aotearoa New Zealand's bi-cultural context, subject only to funding:
All stories will be offered in Te Reo and English
Māori whānau, hapū or iwi will be able to choose what stories to add and who can see them
Stories will be securely stored in the cloud and streamed onto user's devices for a limited time
Our Apps technical abilities
The Tūhura Aotearoa Discover NZ Stories App already offers features such as content streaming, 360 degree views, interactive maps, history slider to go back in time and the ability to download stories to view offline.
Working together with potential partners, we're also able to customise the App and create interactive partner content (e.g. videos, mini-games, AI powered features), based on partner/user interests. User engagement metrics can be provided on partner content, to meet reporting requirements.
